It was the second largest economy in 2016, with 16% of the EU`s common GDP. With a turnover of 27% of all EU Member States` military spending in 2015, it was, by this definition, the EU`s leading military power. Together with France, the only other EU member state with a comparable military projection capability, it was one of only two EU member states with a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and nuclear weapons. The impact of Brexit has undoubtedly been greater for the UK itself than for the remaining 27 Member States. But Brexit has also threatened to reduce the INTERNATIONAL WEIGHT (probably already declining) and the influence of the EU (Webber, 2018). History shows that originally, three spheres of interest dominated the official British attitude: the United Kingdom`s relations with the United States, the Commonwealth, and then Europe. Europe has become more important to the UK as it has been more successful economically and, to a lesser extent, politically (Ryan, 2016). 42.Article 4(4) provides that the provisions of the Agreement relating to UNION law or `terms or provisions thereof` are to be interpreted in accordance with the relevant case-law of the Court of Justice adopted before the end of the transitional period. The judicial and administrative authorities of the United Kingdom need only “take due account of the case-law of the Court of Justice after the end of the transition”37 The Withdrawal Agreement also provides that the United Kingdom must withdraw from the Convention establishing the Statute for the European Schools, with the United Kingdom having to comply with the Convention and the accompanying rules on the European Schools before the end of the last academic year of the transition.
